One-dimensional Quantum Spin Liquids

This chapter is intended as a brief overview of some of the quantum spin liquid phases with unbroken SU(2) spin symmetry available in one dimension. The main characteristics of these phases are discussed by means of the bosonization approach. A special emphasis is laid on the interplay between frustration and quantum fluctuations in one dimension.

Phenomenological theory of two-dimensional quantum liquids

A phenomenological theory is presented for two-dimensional quantum liquids in terms of the Fermi surface geometry. It is shown that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the properties of an interacting electron system and its corresponding Fermi surface. By doing this, the concept of Fermi surface is generalized to include different topologies. It is shown that for a Fermi liquid the co...

Quantum transport on two-dimensional regular graphs

Abstract. We study the quantum-mechanical transport on two-dimensional graphs by means of continuous-time quantum walks and analyse the effect of different boundary conditions (BCs). For periodic BCs in both directions, i.e., for tori, the problem can be treated in a large measure analytically. Some of these results carry over to graphs which obey open boundary conditions (OBCs), such as cylind...

Quantum spin liquids

This paper presents an overview of the properties of magnetic insulators, with emphasis on quantum effects. In particular, the consequences of strong quantum fluctuations on the low-energy properties of a number of systems are reviewed: the occurrence of a spin gap in spin-1 chains and other low-dimensional magnets; the presence of low-lying singlet excitations in several frustrated magnets; th...

Quasi-two-dimensional spin transport wire

We demonstrate that in an inversion-asymmetric quasi-two-dimensional electron system (quasi2DES) with both Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit couplings at present, certain transport directions on which no spin precession occurs can be found when the injected spin is properly polarized. By analyzing the expectation value of spin with respect the injected electron state on each space point in the ...
